Hourly Rentals
Why is Moss Bay a good place to rent? Moss Bay is open year round in the Pacific Northwest and has excellent kayaks, rowing shells, and sailboats for all sizes and experience levels. Kayaks and shell rent year round - Sail Boats rent from June 1st - Sept 15th. Our sheltered waterways have a 7-knot speed limit, making Moss Bay a highly enjoyable and safe way to spend a few hours or an afternoon. Navigate the local waterways to the University of Washington, the Ballard Locks, through local houseboat communities, or to our beautiful Arboretum. Our boats can be rented from 8am to dusk every day of the week (summer season) by the hour, day, or multiple days.

Who can participate? Anyone big or small, who enjoys playing around in little boats, has not been consuming alcohol, and is willing to honor our checkout requirements may rent a paddle or sailboat from Moss Bay. We have boats to accommodate all body shapes and sizes, so this is an activity for all!
Although everyone has the ability to rent boats from Moss Bay - for safety reasons, our staff reserves the right to refuse equipment rentals to any person at any time. Also, youth under 18 cannot take out boats without being accompanied by an adult or have written parent permission (or telephone authorization by their parent whom we dial direct). Very young children can go between their parent's legs in a boat provided they are also wearing a life jacket. Hourly rentals require completion of our registration from, leaving a current driver's license or passport behind, and a signature on our waiver and release form.
Kayaks Rentals - M-F if you rent for two hrs you can paddle up to two more at no additional cost --- Sa-Su rent for three hours and you can go one more at no additional cost!
Sail Boats - M-F rent for two hours get one hour FREE --- Sa & Su rent for three hours and get one FREE! Sailing is offered from June 1st - Sept 15th
There is a one hour minimum on all rentals - prorated by the 1/4 hour after the 1st hour.

From Moss Bay -- S. Lake Union in Seattle For the more adventurous kayaker, Moss Bay's kayaks may be rented for take away to your favorite remote waterway by the day, weekend, or week! Many Seattlites and out-of-town visitors rent from us for their overnight paddling expeditions through the San Juan Islands, the scenic waterways of beautiful British Columbia, or the hundreds of amazing fresh water lakes in the area.

One of the most convenient features about Moss Bay's overnight take away rentals is that the rental period begins in the afternoon on the day before and ends the morning after the rental period. This allows for transportation of your kayak so that you spend your rental time actually paddling at your destination site, rather than wasting your rental time driving in the car. For example, if you rent a kayak for Saturday and Sunday, Moss Bay allows you to pick up the kayak between 6pm & 7:30pm on Friday, returning the boat between 9am & 11am Monday so you get the most out of your rental!
All boats must be rented and returned between 9am - 7pm.
For take away rentals, we require full payment upon pick up of the boats and equipment, and signatures of all participants on our liability and release form. In addition Moss Bay requires a deposit against the equipment in the form of an authorization on a major credit card.
