Day 5: About Being Harmonius - Your child is learning how to:

Rowing
  • Make continuous, seamless stroke motions with no apparent beginning or end.
  • Use some of the stroke recovery time to take a quick breather.
  • Avoid excess tension, especially in the shoulders, during the stroke motion.
  • Produce propulsion in the hull like a coffee percolating from the side of the hull between each stroke; strive to push the previous puddle farther from the hull.
Kayaking
  • Safely re enter the boat using a roll or paddle float technique with minimal upset.
  • Develop a stroke motion that allows you to stay on course in spite of crossing winds.
Sailing
  • Work with the sailboat crew to easily set sails, turn the boat, and pursue a new course.
  • Talk with teammates before tacking or jibing, so participants are clear and agreed on their strategy.
